Nigeria has Decree 4 of 1984, not a constitution – Igboho’s lawyer
Nigeria has the Protection Against False Accusations Decree, otherwise known as Decree 4 of 1984, and not the 1999 Constitution, Olasupo Ojo, Coordinator, Legal Affairs for embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has said.
He spoke on Wednesday while featuring on PUNCH Online interview programme, The Roundtable..
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had introduced the draconian decree when he was head of state between December 1983 and August 1985.
He had seized power through a coup on New Year’s Eve and took strong measures against the press, jailed journalists and kicked strongly against free speech as well as fundamental human rights.
Many Nigerians have recently accused Buhari of re-introducing the notorious decree since his return as democratic president.
