Tailor docked over alleged negligence, breach of trust

A 33-year-old tailor, Esther David, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged breach of trust..




The defendant who resides at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, is facing a two-count charge bordering on negligence and criminal breach of trust.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, said the complainant, one Cynthia Godwin, of Ungwan Sunday in Television area, Kaduna, reported the matter at Sabon Tasha Police Station, Kaduna, on Feb. 22.

According to Leo, sometime in Nov. 2020, the complainant gave the defendant three pieces of wrapper to sew for her and she was charged the sum of N17,000.


The prosecutor said the complainant gave the defendant the sum of N10,000 and promised to pay the balance when the clothes were ready.

Leo added that when the complainant came to collect her clothes, the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation for losing the wrappers.

He further added that all efforts made by the complainant to get the wrappers and money back from the defendant proved abortive.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 311 and 233 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until March 31 for hearing, NAN reports
