Man Bags Life Imprisonment For Raping A 14-year-old Girl In Cross River State (Details below)

A 47-year-old man identified as Emmanuel Thompson Udo, have been sentenced to life imprisonment for having forceful canal knowledge of his 14-year-old stepdaughter.

The rapist was condemned by a Family Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State on Thursday, December 3.

He was found guilty of raping the minor at his residence No. 45 Afokang Street, Calabar South LGA of the state in August, 2018.

The case was ruled by Hon. Justice E.E. Ita, Acting Chief Judge of Cross River State and presiding Judge of the Family Court.

Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI); Hon. Tanko Ashang, former Attorney General of Cross River State; Mr. Felix Itittim, the DPP; Blessing Egwu and the Nigeria Police secured his conviction.

Narrating how the incident happened, the head of BRCI, Barr. James Ibor, reveal that the rape incident was exposed after the victim’s mother reported the matter to the group.


According to him, the victim who is now 16 years, was excited when she heard of the sentence handed to her stepfather.

Reacting to the judgement in a facebook post, BRCI expressed their sincere appreciation to those who helped in the conviction and success of the judgement.

They wrote:

Hon. Justice E.E. Ita the Acting Chief Judge, Cross River State and presiding Judge of the Family Court has just convicted Mr. Emmanuel Thompson Udo (see pix) for the rape of a 14year old child (his step child). All thanks to the Nigerian Police special investigators, the Hon. Attorney General, Hon. Tanko Ashang, the DPP-Mr Felix Itittim and Blessing Egwu for their effort in securing justice.Thanks to the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative team providing support to the survivor through out the period of investigation and trial.
