Recall an earlier report on Favour, a 17-year-old girl who suffered a spinal cord injury after she was severely beaten and raped in the Agbarha Industrial area of Lagos state in April 2020.

New reports reveal that Favour has succumbed to her injuries and has died.

The Non-Governmental Organization, DemiCare foundation, who has been following up her case, shared the sad news via its Twitter handle this afternoon.

Recall that Favour was beaten up, raped, and left inside a drainage to die by a 28-year-old man named Robinson GodDay on April 23.

In an interview, Favour’s aunt, Mary Bassey, said the suspect had raped Favour in January. He was taken to the police station where he was made to write an undertaking vowing never to rape her again. Robinson in April, ambushed Favour again while she was returning from her job where she had done the night shift. He beat her up, raped her and threw her into the drainage, causing her to sustain spinal cord injury. She was found two days after the incident.

Bassey said unknown to Favour, Robinson planned to rape her again. She said on April 23 while Favour was returning from her place of work which is a factory situated along the Industrial part of Agbarha, Robinson allegedly accosted her and violently raped her.

”What happened is that on the 23rd of April, she went to work and while on her way back, she was attacked by the 28-year-old boy who raped her and beat her up and then pushed her inside a gutter. We were looking for her all through that day but we couldn’t find her. It was the following day that some people rushed down and told us that they saw a fair lady inside the gutter. We ran down there and brought her home. All parts of her body were destroyed.” she said

Favour had been in the hospital since then. Robinson is currently being detained at the Eleweran police division in Ogun state. She said the Ogun state government is fully involved in the case as they have taken up Favour’s medical expenses.

She sadly lost the battle to regain her health.

May her soul rest in peace, Amen.
