Barça’s great victory to start preparing for the Champions League. The Catalans have won with authority in Montpellier (3-0) thanks to a double by Oshoala and a goal by Jennifer Hermoso in a match perfectly dominated by the team of Lluis Cortés. The duel took place in the Sports City and behind closed doors for health reasons, and was the first friendly before facing the final eight of the Champions League.
The Catalans clearly dominated the first half, with a very close Montpellier and countless chances for the Barça players, but the visiting goalkeeper Schmitz saved his team with spectacular stops.
Especially after the hydration break, when the Barça monologue was absolute and only the goal was missing. Several goal opportunities, with Jennifer and Martens as main protagonists, and even a ball on the post. In fact, the Dutchwoman has been one of the most outstanding, very incisive from the right side, where the young Jana Fernández has also made a great first part.
Oshoala opens the scoring
In the second half, Lluis Cortés moved from the bench and gave way to several players right at the restart: Cata Coll, Graham, Melanie, Hamraoui, Aitana Bonmatí and Oshoala. Precisely the striker was responsible for breaking the tie: great deep pass from Mariona and Oshoala , with a good touch, overtook the visiting goalkeeper (1-0, minute 64). However, minutes before Cata Coll had saved the visiting goal with a great stop in front of Engman.
Although the second half has been more balanced, the Catalans have been able to transform all the chances they have resisted in the first. And again the Nigerian, who already scored both goals in the training match a few days ago, has seen the goal again, this time taking advantage of an error by the visiting goalkeeper (2-0, minute 86). Already in added time, Jennifer Hermoso , who had re-entered along with Bruna and Emma, scored the 3-0 at the exit of a corner (min. 92).
Finally, a convincing victory in what has been the fifth friendly between Barça and Montpellier in the last five seasons (three wins, a draw and a defeat) and what has been the most unbalanced of all. In addition, it has been the first game of the Catalan preseason to continue preparing for the 2019/20 Champions League , which will be played in the Final 8 format in the Basque Country, from 21 to 30 August. We must remember that the quarter-final rival will be Atlético de Madrid, at the San Mamés stadium.
