A newborn baby was yesterday rescued from where it was dumped in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital

The baby, with the placenta still attached to its umbilical cord, was discovered in an uncompleted building around Goshen avenue, in Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti at about 10 pm on Monday.

A source living around the area said the baby which had no clothes on was dumped on the bare floor of the building.

The cries of the innocent baby had attracted some residents who later contacted the office of the Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi and the police authorities in the state.

The baby, it was gathered, was subsequently rescued by the police and moved to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital where it is currently receiving treatment on the bill of the wife of the governor.

Some residents of the area who reacted to the development condemned the action of the supposed mother of the baby describing it as a height of wickedness.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Mr Sunday Abutu who confirmed the incident said the residents of the community alerted the police about the baby.

Abutu said, “We got a call that a newly born baby was abandoned in an uncompleted building in Adebayo.

“We have recovered the baby and we immediately move it to EKSUTH and the child is now undergoing some treatment and care”.

He said efforts are ongoing to track the mother of the baby.
