Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has said it is “a shame” to see Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, finish fourth in the Ballon d’Or rankings for 2019.

Mane helped the Reds clinch the Champions League trophy and playing a key role in the team’s Premier League title push.
The Senegal forward also scored three goals at the Africa Cup of Nations this year, as they lost to Algeria in the final.

Messi, who voted for Mane to win the FIFA The Best award earlier this year, told Canal+: “It’s a shame to see Mane finish in fourth place.

“But I think there have been a lot of great players this year. That’s why it was difficult to choose a particular player.

“But I chose Sadio Mane because he’s a player that I like.

“Mane achieved a great year that was exceptional for the entire Liverpool team. That’s why I chose him.

“I repeat, there were a lot of very great players this year, so the choice was difficult.”
