Iheanacho scores second goal of the season as Leicester book place in Carabao cup quarterfinal

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored his second goal of the season as Leicester City beat Burton Albion 3-1 to book a place in the Carabao cup quarterfinal.

Iheanacho, who lost his personal assist Daniel Nwachukwu three days ago, put his loss behind him as he superbly linked up with teammate Youri Tielemans before scoring Leicester City’s opener in the 7th minute.Tielemans made it 2-0 for Leicester in the 20th minute as he latched on to Dennis Praet pass before superbly slotting home.

Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward made two key saves just before half time as Brendan Rodgers men went into the dressing room with a 2-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.

But at the start of the second half, the home team Burton Albion came out fighting and got their reward as Liam Boyce pulled one back in the 52nd minute to make the scores 2-1.

Iheanacho was then replaced in the 66th minute for Harvey Barnes as Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers made changes to secure his team’s lead.

Burton Albion continued to push forward for an equalizer but were on numerous occasions denied by Danny Ward. They will however be made to rue their missed chances as James Maddison scored late on to secure the win for Leicester City.

The Foxes held on to claim a vital 3-1 win as they booked their place in Carabao cup quarterfinal and continued their fine form after their 9-0 record breaking away win against Southampton.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Super Eagles stars Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, joined their colleagues in paying a heart-felt tribute to Leicester City former owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

The Thai billionaire businessman Srivaddhanaprabha was one of the five victims of a disastrous helicopter crash that occurred at the King Power Stadium in 2018.
