El-Zakzaky: IMN buries Shi’ites killed in violent clash with police, vows to keep protesting
No fewer than six slain members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, who died in Monday’s violent clash between the Muslim group and the police, have been buried.
However, the Islamic sect on Tuesday vowed to continue their protests for the release of their detained leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, despite the heavy clampdown by security forces. The sect said this after the funeral ceremony of their dead members in Suleja, Niger State.
Abdullahi Musa, the Academic Forum Secretary of IMN, said: “the rites of funeral of the killed have taken place today at Suleja. Hundreds of people attended the funeral prayer, including members of their immediate families, friends and other people from around the neighbourhood.
“Trigger-happy security personnel should know that senseless killing can never put us off the streets of Abuja, it only adds more power to our elbow; no amount of cruelty and inhumanity will deter us.
“Our leader should just be released. Tomorrow is another day for us, and protests continue.”
Meanwhile, some members of the Muslim group, who came out to protest at the popular Banex junction in Wuse II District Abuja, were dispersed by a combined team of soldiers and police.
Eyewitnesses told Edujandon.com that the protesters had barely gathered to commence their planned demonstration before the security personnel deployed to the seen released tear gas canisters and fired gunshots in the air to disperse them.
“When the tear gas was released and people heard the gunshots, everyone scampered for safety including traders, passersby, and motorists,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Abdullahi Musa told our correspondent that two members of the Islamic sect sustained injuries trying to take safety cover.
He said the injured have been rushed to a private medical facility where they are received treatment.
