Corruption thrives in the executive too, Secondus replies Buhari
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party , Uche Secondus, on Thursday , alleged that monumental corruption was going on in the executive arm of government under President Muhammadu Buhari .
Secondus made his position known in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by his media aide , Ike Abonyi .
He was responding to a statement credited to Buhari on the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen , when the President was hosting some Yoruba leaders at the Presidential Villa , Abuja.
He said it was worrisome that while Buhari ceaselessly berated the judiciary , he turned blind eyes to the alleged monumental corruption in the executive arm.
He said Buhari ’ s disdain for the judiciary was becoming dangerous and antithetical to democratic norms .
While alleging that the executive arm of government was stinking of corruption , Secondus urged Buhari to look inwards .
He advised him to stop his alleged hostility and ill – treatment of the nation ’ s judiciary .
He further alleged that even among Buhari ’ s audience where he was lampooning the judiciary , there were persons whose sources of wealth were questionable .
Secondus said , “ He ( Buhari ) has continued to bemoan his past with the judiciary by displaying his unconcealed anger and unforgiving desire to take a pound of flesh on them .
“ The motive behind the endless attacks on the judiciary by the President , especially Tuesday’ s narration of his so – called ordeal with the courts , is strategically designed to cow them into submission to his undemocratic desires .
L
“ We all know it as a fact that the motive of the President in his countless berating of members of the judiciary at the slightest moment is deliberately designed to frighten them , take away their confidence and force them to submit to his wishes by intimidation . ”
He, therefore , urged all lovers of democracy in the country to rise up in defence of the judiciary , which he said , gets bashing from an executive arm that seeks absolute power from the back door .
The PDP chairman also charged members of the judiciary never to abdicate their responsibilities in the sustenance of democracy .
