Zimbabwe’s Minister Of Power Sacked Over 8-hour Outage Daily
Due to low water levels and poor coal supplies to the generating plants, the country is currently producing 969 MW daily.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has relieved Joram Gumbo of his portfolio as Minister of Energy and Power Development after his catastrophic failure to tame the country’s power woes.
Zimbabwe is experiencing the worst electricity blackouts since the one that happened in 2016 as a result of a devastating drought, BBC reports.
The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) had said there would be blackouts for about 8 hours daily, because of a drop in output at its largest hydro plant and ageing coal-fired generators.
Due to low water levels and poor coal supplies to the generating plants, the country is currently producing 969 MW daily against peak demand of 2,100 MW.
