PDP may Present Candidate for Senate Presidency

Senators under the flag of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) may have dumped their plans to support a friendly senator from the All Progressive Congress ( APC) for the position of senate president in the 9th National Assembly.

Punch reports that, members of the PDP are determined to field a candidate against the APC for the position of the head of the red chamber despite APC having the majority in the house.

A South-East senator under PDP hinted that his colleagues were planning to exploit a crack in the APC caucus ahead of June 9 when the 9th National Assembly would be inaugurated. He said:

It is glaring that Senator Ali Ndume will contest the Senate president seat on the day of inauguration because he is obviously dissatisfied with the position of the party.
Rather than pacify him, the APC leadership seems not to care about the trauma and emotional pains they have subjected Ndume to by saying that the decision to pick Ahmad Lawan was final.

Meanwhile, a senator from the South-South has identified Ike Ekeremadu, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and James Manager as possible PDP candidates for the position of head of Senate.
