President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new Inspector General of Police , Mr . Mohammad Abubakar AdamuBuhari decorated the new Inspector General of Police at the State House , Abuja on Tuesday .
He was assisted by the immediate past Police IG , Ibrahim Kpotun Idris .
The new IG hails from Nasarawa.
Earlier on Tuesday , the President and cabinet ministers had held an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja .
The agenda of the meeting , which took place at the Presidential Villa , was unknown .
Our Correspondent had reported earlier that Adamu was sighted at the Presidential Villa , Abuja .
He had been projected as the possible replacement for the former Inspector -General of Police , Mr . Ibrahim Idris.
Adamu was seen on Tuesday morning going to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President , Mr . Abba Kyari , for a meeting .
While Adamu was at the Villa , Idris was with other security chiefs at the Cenotaph of the Unknown Soldier laying a wreath in commemoration of the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Adamu ’ s appointment as the new Inspector – General of Police was without prior announcement by the Presidency .
