JUST IN: APC to hold fresh primaries in Edo on Saturday

The All Progressives Congress has said that it would conduct fresh legislative primaries across the 192 wards in Edo State on Saturday .
The chairman of the state primary election committee , Hajia Farida Suleiman , disclosed this to journalists on Friday evening , after a meeting with party members at the state secretariat in Benin , the state capital.

The National Working Committee had on Thursday cancelled what it described as “ authorised congresses” held in the state to elect candidates for the 2019 general elections.

The state chapter had rejected the decision , adding the exercise was held in accordance with the party’ s guidelines .

But Suleiman said that the exercise organised on Thursday remained illegal as it was not conducted by the committee.

She , however , assured that the committee would ensure a free , fair and transparent exercise .

She also expressed hope that it would meet the deadline given by the leadership of the APC .

Efforts to reach the State Chairman , Mr . Anselm Ojezua , for comments were unsuccessful .

Calls put across to his mobile phone number rang out and he had yet to respond to a text message sent to him .
