I Can’t Support Osinbajo Because Of My Father – Femi Kuti Speaks As VP Visits Fela’s Shrine

Last night, VP Yemi Osinbajo visited the Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s New Afrika shrine as the 2018 Felabration wrapped up, but what made major headlines was Femi Kuti’s statement on Buhari government.

While speaking on Sunday night at ‘Felabration’, an annual musical event to celebrate afrobeat music legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Femi Kuti stated that he can’t support Prof. Osinbajo’s government because of his father’s beliefs.

The Afrobeat singer who made the statement at Afrikan Shrine, and admitted that the vice president had visited him at home, said;

“Vice President Osinbajo came to me, to my house for support, he’s standing here and I am saying this here, but I told him I can’t support because of my father’s support and he understands but he’s my friend, so he understands,” he told the crowd in attendance.

“He said he wanted to come to the shrine to see what everybody is saying about Shrine and I am happy that he came and saw that we are not crazy here. He said he didn’t know this place was this big.”

Recall that during his tenure as military head of state, President Muhammadu Buhari had sentenced Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Femi’s father, to jail for five years.

He was found guilty of illegally attempting to export £1,600 in foreign currency – money that Fela said he had earned abroad.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that various dignitaries attended the week-long event at the New Afrika Shrine including Ituah Ighodalo, senior pastor at Trinity House.

Some of the acts who entertained fans during the course of the week were Davido, Timaya, Ycee, Reminisce, Pasuma, Reekado Banks, Tuface, Femi Kuti, Made and Simi.
