Reports on the media that Apex Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere has endorsed Buhari as its candidate has been debunked.

The leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, has said that the group has not endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari or any presidential aspirant ahead of the 2019 elections.

Fasoranti made this known on Wednesday, September 5 as he denied such reports circulating on the media.

The group said reports that the Afenifere leadership had adopted an aspirant for the forthcoming presidential election were lies.

According to Punch, that the group said it was presently preoccupied with engaging Presidential aspirants with a view to ensure Nigeria is restructured into a federal polity.

Afenifere in a statement signed by Reuben Fasoranti said it was fully committed to the goal of saving Nigeria from collapse. Fosaranti also urged all Nigerians to, ” wait for the appropriate time when we shall speak to our country”.

“The attention of Afenifere has been drawn to a spurious report in circulation that the group has adopted a presidential aspirant for the 2019 elections. We ordinarily would have ignored the report as it makes no sense to suggest that a serious group would adopt an aspirant when political parties have yet to produce candidates.

“A rebuttal is, however, being issued for the sake of the unwary who may be hoodwinked by the said report,” the statement said.
