Theresa May’s Visit To Nigeria Is Not An Endorsement Of Buhari’s Re-election Bid – British High Commission
Theresa May, the Prime Minister of Britain has cleared the air following her recent visit to Nigeria.
The British High Commission in Nigeria has declared that the recent visit of Theresa May, the British Prime Minister, is not an endorsement of President Buhari or any other candidate.
Laura Beaufils, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, said this in her address at an interactive session organised for journalists by the commission in Lagos where she also restated the UK government’s commitment to spending £47.4million on Deepening Democracy in Nigeria Programme Phase 2 (DDiN2).
Speaking on UK’s role in deepening democracy in partnership with Nigeria, Beaufils stated that British government has no intention to influence the outcome of the 2019 general election, adding that it does not have a preferred candidate.
“It is important to stress that the recent visit of the Prime Minister, Theresa May, to Nigeria was not an endorsement of support for the president or any candidate in the election next year,” Beaufils said.
