The biggest transfer of the summer is now official. After a few weeks of deliberation, Cristiano Ronaldo will be moving to Juventus for a fee of around £105m.

The former Real Madrid man will sign a four-year contract in Turin and will command the highest salary ever seen in Italian football – by some distance.

His transfer signals the end of an era in Spanish football, Ronaldo’s rivalry with Lionel Messi officially brought to an end after nine years of brilliance.

The only solace is that they can still meet again in the Champions League.

Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid with the most ridiculous of records, scoring 451 goals in 438 games for Los Blancos.

He’s also won the Champions League on four separate occasions with the club.

And due to his impact in Madrid, Sergio Ramos felt the need to post a touching message to his former teammate pretty much as soon as the news was announced.

RAMOS’ TWEET

The message reads: “@Cristiano, your goals, your numbers and everything we’ve earned together speak for themselves.

“You’ve earned yourself a prominent place in the history of @RealMadrid. The madridists will always remember you. It’s been a pleasure playing by your side, bug. Strong hug and luck…!”

Some very kind words.

While Ronaldo hasn’t always been popular win fans in Madrid, he leaves as their greatest ever player.

The size of the task for Julen Lopetegui now is massive.

Los Blancos will surely make some huge signings of their own to compensate for his departure, with Neymar and Eden Hazard the two most heavily linked.

However, neither of those two boast a scoring record anywhere near Ronaldo’s and it will be interesting to see how the new boss deals with that.

A new era has begun not only for Real Madrid, but for all of Spanish football.
