7 Dead, Several Injured In Borno Mosque Suicide Bombing (Photos)

At least seven persons were killed while many others sustained various degrees of injury when a suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) strapped on his body inside Goni Modu Lashibe Jummaa mosque, Konduga town in Konduga Local Area of Borno State.The suicide bomber believed to a member of the Boko Haram terror group struck when Muslim faithful were observing morning prayers. Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Damsin Chukwu, said seven people were killed, while seven others injured.

He said: “Today (yesterday) about 4.55a.m., a male suicide bomber detonated an IED strapped to his body in Goni Modu Lashibe mosque in Konduga Local Government Area, killing himself and seven worshippers. Seven other persons were injured and were rushed to the General Hospital, Konduga for treatment.” The commissioner added that the victims’ bodies had been evacuated to the mortuary while the scene of incident had been sanitised by a team of EOD personnel of the police.

Chukwu, therefore, encouraged members of the public to be strong and continue to support the police and other security agencies in the fight against insurgency and other criminal acts in the state. He also assured the people of the determination of the police to ensure safety of all residents of the state. Also confirming the incident, the Head of Rescue Operations, Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Bello Dambatta, said that seven people were killed, while seven others were injured.

Dambatta said the suicide bomber, who disguised as one of the faithful, join in the prayers before detonating the IED. He added that both the dead and the injured had been evacuated to medical facilities in Maiduguri.
