Steven Gerrard names three Man United players who didn’t perform in 2-1 loss to Sevilla

Steven Gerrard singled out three Manchester United players for criticism following Tuesday night’s 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the Champions League.

The Red Devils welcomed the Spanish side to Old Trafford for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

Manchester United produced a disappointing performance in a goalless draw with Sevilla in the first leg last month.

The 20-time English champions struggle to create chances in the second leg to hand the initiative to the visitors.
Sevilla manager Vincenzo Montella turned to Wissam Ben Yedder in the second half and the substitute made the difference in the Champions League clash.

Yedder managed to avoid a tackle from Eric Bailly to break the deadlock in the 74th minute before he made it 2-0 four minutes later to leave Manchester United with a mountain to climb.

Belgium international Romelu Lukaku managed to find the net with seven minutes to go but the summer signing’s strike proved nothing more than a consolation goal.

Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard named three Manchester United players who didn’t turn up at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

“Mourinho’s big players didn’t perform,” Gerrard told BT Sport .

“Sanchez was poor, Rashford was poor, Lukaku was OK. But if you want to progress into the quarter-finals of the Champions League you need your big players to get the fans off their seats.

“None of them turned up for Jose Mourinho tonight. Whatever tactics you play, none of them were good enough tonight.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Champions League since 2008 when Sir Alex Ferguson’s men beat Chelsea FC on penalties.
