The chief whip of the federal house of representatives, has Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has reacted to the letter former President, Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking while addressing house of representatives correspondents on Wednesday, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, chief whip of the lower, berated former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the letter he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to TheCable, the lawmaker said the letter – where Obasanjo advised Buhari against seeking re-election and accused the president of nepotism and condoning corruption – is an example of “corruption fighting back” and should be “totally” disregarded by Nigerians.

While describing the letter as “unfortunate”, Ado-Doguwa said Obasanjo lacks credibility to speak about Nigeria’s political terrain, adding that the former president is “completely wrong in his speculations” and will not succeed in blocking the president’s re-election bid.

“Obasanjo lacks the moral and political credibility to even speak in the way he is doing on the political affairs of the country,” he said.

“The former president, who was used to engaging in very unreasonable political comments should know that he cannot, in any way, be a stumbling block against the popular desire of Nigerians to give President Muhammadu Buhari a second term to rule this great nation, which unfortunately was put to a state of economic and political quagmires by the likes of Obasanjo and his cohorts.

“After all, a man who was involved in all sorts of corruption issues in his administration and indeed his unpopular bid to violate our respected constitution by wanting to make a third term is not in any way a credible voice to count on.

“The former president may have gotten it right in the past; He has an unfortunate antecedent in trying to intervene in the activities of a sitting government. But I assure you he is not going to get it right this time around.

“He is being unpatriotic and mischievous. His case is typical of corruption fighting back. Obasanjo is fighting back because he is corrupt.”

Ado-Doguwa urged Nigerians to disregard the “destructive” comments made by the former president.

“It is also in my candid opinion that all Nigerians are impressed by the good work of President Buhari and therefore yearn that the president should answer this clarion call to accept to run for the second term by 2019.”
