Newborn baby’s head found beside a canal in Lagos

It was a shocking sight for residents of Babalola bus stop in Itire as they found the severed head of a newborn baby in a canal in the area.

Residents and passersby along a canal opposite Babalola bus stop, Itire, Lagos State, gaped in horror as a severed head of a newborn baby was found beside the canal.

It was gathered that the residents woke up to the gory sight on Monday. A lot of people in the area believed that the baby is a victim of ritual killings and they probably used the other parts of the baby for their rituals and then dumped the head as it was of no use to them.

According to reports coming from the area, it was gathered that the hairy head of the baby was kept inside a black pot with bloodstains around it and then placed beside the canal.

A resident, Kabiru Anifowoshe, ho was at the scene revealed that he was on his way to work around 8am when he saw a large crowd at the spot. He hen decided to move closer to see what was happening.

He said,

Another witness, Saka Adeboye, said it was a horrible sight to behold and wondered how human beings can be so wicked to a newborn baby who has done no crime to deserve the harsh treatment it got. He went further to say that policemen from the Itire division later came to remove the head from the canal, adding that no arrest was made.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said the head had been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital morgue, Yaba, and autopsy ill be carried out on the severed head.

He said,

“In my observation, the victim was a day old baby. People were shocked and cursed the perpetrators. The area, especially around the canal, is usually deserted by 9pm.”

“The scene was photographed while the newborn baby’s head was removed and deposited in the morgue for autopsy. Effort is being made to track down the perpetrators of the evil act.”
