Simon Milne’s wife Francoise says her “world has been shattered” by last year’s Brexit vote and she is “scared” about her future

One of the Queen’s bodyguards has been left “angry and frustrated” as his French wife of 24 years faces an uncertain future in the UK following Brexit.

Francoise Milne, 50, had applied for a permanent residency card after the Government “failed to clarify” the future rights of EU nationals living in the UK.

But the mother, who has three children with ex-marine Simon Milne, 58, said her application was refused in October as she could not prove she was “self-sufficient”.

Mr Milne, who has served in Northern Ireland and Bosnia, and is one of 27 Gentlemen at Arms who guard the Queen on royal occasions, said he was “flabbergasted” with the decision.

His wife said her “world has been shattered” by last year’s Brexit vote and she is now “scared and confused” about her future.
