Man’s Greatest Problem Is Himself — Adeboye

GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, Monday night declared that the greatest challenge before a man was himself.

Speaking on a topic titled, ‘Victory over self’ on the opening day of the ongoing annual Holy Ghost Congress at the Redemption Camp with a theme, “Songs of victory”, the revered man of God said victory over self was the most crucial of all victories.

Addressing a mammoth crowd that included the wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Bola Obasanjo, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his wife, Adeboye said man had many enemies in life but the biggest three of his enemies were death, devil and self—the biggest enemy of them all because it’s within the man.

Drawing inspiration from several Bible passages, Pastor Adeboye said the first two challenges had already been taken care by God and scriptures had testified to that, noting that “overcoming yourself is greater than overcoming a city. The first and biggest victory a man can achieve is victory over self. A man who can control his anger, temper, emotion, and stay out of sin generally, is a victorious man already,” he stated, maintaining that any man who could not conquer his appetite for sin, could be likened to a city without walls that was vulnerable to attacks.

Stressing that it was possible for man to overcome himself and conquer every challenge before him as God had declared that no challenge that came the way of man that he would not have the capacity to bear, pointing out that God had actually gone a step further to say He would provide a way of escape out of such challenges.

According to him, anyone desiring to overcome self must at all times endeavour to ignore those criticizing you and proceeded to outline seven reasons why it was not impossible to overcome self.

They include: “If you are truly born again and obedient to the word of God, because the seed of God dwells in you and your salvation is genuine, there will be something that will always say no to sin. No matter the temptation that a child of God might encounter, there is something that will tell you that you must be holy.

“Jesus Christ overcame and you and I can also overcome. Temptation is not sin but when you yield to the temptation, then you sin. God will not allow any temptation beyond what you can bear to come your way. It is written sin shall not have dominion over you. The power of God will keep. Holy Spirit will help us because we cannot run the race on our own. God loves the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”

Earlier on, taking the first message of the day titled ‘God is a Spirit’, Lagos State chairman of CAN, Apostle Alex Bamgbola said God is not just a Spirit, He’s the father of all spirit and those who worship Him must do so in spirit because He has no beginning nor an end.

The apostle also revealed that on November 5, 2017 while preparing to host the recent Reinhard Bonnke’s farewell crusade, he had a revelation of the rapture, warning therefore that the second coming of the Lord is nearer than anyone can imagine.

The lot fell on the National General, Overseer of the church and member of RCCG Governing Council, Pastor J. O. Obayemi, who thanked God for His wondrous work since the congress started several years and the numerous and diverse miracles wroth on a yearly basis.

According to the National General Overseer, some of the miracles are very often more spectacular than the ones in the Bible, which confirms the Lord’s saying that more miracles would follow this age.
