Here is a list of top 10 private universities in Nigeria.

The following universities are ranked based on a combination of factors such as academic standards, facilities, location, cost, and Webometrics ranking.

1. Covenant University

Licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria on 12th February 2002, Covenant University has grown to be the best private University in Nigeria.

Convenant University is built on solid moral foundations, yet it excels on an innovative blueprint set by Chancellor, Dr. David O. Oyedepo.

2. Babcock University

Babcock University is located in Ilisan Remo, Ogun state. Babcock University has grown in popularity because of its innovative methods of management.

5. Redeemer’s University

Redeemer’s University is located far away in Ede, Osun State.

Redeemer’s University is home to several highly respected dons, who have taught or are still teaching at Redeemer’s university.

  • Professor Oyewale Tomori (past vice chancellor, former World Health Organisation executive for sub-Saharan Africa and a Fellow of the prestigious Nigerian Academy of Science),
  • Funsho Akere (all fellows of the Prestigious Nigerian Academy of Letter),
  • Professors Ahmed Parker Yerima (immediate past Director-General of the Nigeria National Theatre, National Troupe, and the Abuja Carnival and 2006 winner of the NLNG Prize for Literature),

6. Igbinedion University Okada

Igbinedion University Okada is the first private university in Nigeria. Iginedion University is Located in Okada, Edo state.

For a private university, Igbinedion has an exceptional range of programmes. Igbinedion University has a fully accredited faculty of Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Natural and Applied Sciences, Business and Management Studies and the Arts and Social Sciences.

Igbinedion University apart from being the pioneer private university in Nigeria was also the first private university in the country to produce medical doctors. In 2006, Mr. Sunday Damilola Olawuyi obtained a First Class Honours degree in the Nigerian Bar examinations, thereby making Igbinedion University the only private university in Nigeria to have produced a first class student in the Nigerian Bar Examinations

7. Ajayi Crowther University

The Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo was established by the Supra Diocesan Board (West) of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) .

The University is named after the late Samuel Ajayi Crowther, first African bishop of the Anglican Church, who first translated the Bible into Yoruba.

Caritas University is the second Catholic University in Nigeria founded by Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Paul Mattew Edeh C.S.Sp, OFR. The university is managed by the Congregation of Sisters of Jesus the Saviour, a religious Congregation of Nuns founded by him.
