Cameras at Port Lincoln race course captured the shocking moment a jockey dismounted his horse before violently punching it in the stomach.

Dylan Caboche, 22, was slowly riding ‘She’s Reneldasgirl’ into the starting gates when she reared, nearly causing him to fall off.

Caboche, who has ridden 40 winners in the last 12 months, then dismounted the filly and aggressively thumped the horse in the stomach, causing her to jump to the side.

Remarkably, ‘She’s Reneldasgirl’ still entered the race in South Australia and finished eighth out of a possible 10 places.

Caboche has since received a two-week suspension from Thoroughbred Racing South Australia (TRSA) for his actions.

“TRSA does not condone and will not tolerate such behaviour and it is hoped this penalty – which will remain on the rider’s record and will impact his earning ability – will send a strong signal to others,” TRSA said in a statement.

The jockey has also been condemned for his actions by several animal protection groups.
