Indications emerged, yesterday, that police authorities at the Louis Edet House, Force headquarters, Abuja, may have concluded investigations into activities of arrested kidnap kingpin, Chukwudi Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans, and will soon transfer him back to Lagos where he is expected to be arraigned in court.

Police sources disclosed to Saturday Vanguard that his interrogation was very ‘extensive and intensive’ based on the determination of the authorities to prepare a water-tight case for prosecution in court.

It was gathered that he would be slammed with no less than a 40-count charge bordering on armed robbery, kidnapping, murder etc and all the veritable evidences that will nail him in court have been carefully prepared and documented.

Though it was learned that the suspect pleaded passionately to be pardoned and granted lesser charges with a firm assurance that he would turn a new leaf, his interrogators, nevertheless, ensured that they were not swayed by his pleas hence they rather, capitalized on that to extract very useful information that will lead to a successful prosecution.

Sources also hinted that investigators spread their nets to virtually all the nooks and crannies of the country including Evans country home in search of all known and unknown members of his vicious gang and accomplices before concluding their investigations.

However, it was gathered that two other major accomplices were arrested in the course of their investigation. They include; one Emeka, who allegedly gave information that led to the bloody attack on transport mogul and owner of Young Shall Grow Motors, Chief Obianodo in 2013, and one other Igbo man popularly called Baba Eko, who allegedly supplied information that led to the kidnap of Evans’ last victim, Chief Donatus Dunu, the owner of a multinational pharmaceutical company at Ilupeju, Lagos, early this year. The miraculous escape of Chief Dunu led to the findings that eventually culminated to the arrest of Evans.

Investigations further revealed that investigators in Abuja made ceaseless efforts to establish whether Evans had any link with some of the dreaded and vicious robbery kingpins like late Vampire, Godogodo, Ngwu Ekere Omu etc; who held sway in the eastern part of the country for long before they were outsmarted by the police and killed.

However, it was learned that in order to establish a strong robbery case against him where lives were lost, operatives capitalized on the attack on the transport mogul, Young Shall Grow, where lives were lost in order to make a strong case against Evans. So far, Saturday Vanguard also gathered that strong evidence and statements made by some of his victims are considered weighty enough to lead to a water-tight case in favour of the police.

So far, it has not been possible to establish whether investigators were able to identify some of his vast properties and wealth both in Nigeria and abroad including tracing the whereabouts of his wife and children but sources said efforts are in top gear in that regard. According to sources, we are not restricting investigations on just establishing his culpability in armed robbery and kidnapping alone, we are digging deeper with a view to ascertaining where he lodged the massive cash he was collecting from his victims, the financial institutions that aided him and all other major accomplices.

“We are also critically looking into the role played by security agencies including the police, army etc; that enabled Evans operate freely for so long without being arrested and I can assure you that the Inspector-General of Police directed that we should leave no stone unturned in that regard. He specifically directed us to expose everybody, whether police or military, directly or indirectly involved in the criminal escapades of Evans with firm assurance that they all must face the wrath of the law.”
