EUROPA: Manchester United and Ajax Through to Final

Published

on

Manchester United squeaked past Celta Vigo to secure a Europa League final spot, after a 1-1 draw at home with the Spanish side secured a 2-1 aggregate victory.

United looked set for a comfortable night when Marouane Fellaini’s early header handed them the lead, the Belgian found brilliantly by Marcus Rashford.

But Jose Mourinho’s men sat back and were punished for a largely lethargic performance when Facundo Roncaglia headed home in the 84th minute to get the Spaniards back into the tie.

Within minutes, both the Argentine defender and United’s Eric Bailly were sent off, the Ivorian’s shove on John Guidetti followed by a heated exchange involving every outfield player.

Guidetti missed an open goal in the 96th minute to put the Galicians into the final, leaving Mourinho’s side feeling fortunate.

Manchester United will now face Ajax in the final….
