A Boko Haram suicide bomber who was targeting the University of Maiduguri to attack it, has died while trying.

A suicide bomber died on Saturday in Maiduguri while lying in wait for the right time to attack the University of Maiduguri, Saturday Punch reports.

The institution has recently become the target of Boko Haram suicide bombers.

On Friday, an attempted suicide attack at one of the female hostels was foiled with three of the bombers losing their lives.

According to the statement by the spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency in the North East, Mallam Abdulkadir Ibrahim, the suicide bomber was the only death recorded during today’s attempted attack.

He said the explosive on him went off while in wait for the right opportunity to detonate the bomb as students were already gathering.

The statement read: “Today 20/5/2017 some minutes past 10am, one male adult suicide bomber hid in the bush within the university community surrounding, supposedly trying to gain access into university where students are gathering.

“unfortunately for him the IED exploded and killed him, no other casualty was recorded. The corpse was deposited at Borno specialist hospital.”
