Why Will I Be On The Pitch and You make Onazi The Captain?! – Ahmed Musa Resigns As Deputy Captain

Super Eagles striker, Ahmed Musa, says he will never captain the senior national team again, no matter the circumstance. During Thursday’s international friendly against Senegal in London, Ogenyi Onazi who captained the Eagles got injured and Musa, the next in line, refused to take the armband as stand-in captain.

After the game, the Leicester FC striker told The Cable that he will no longer have anything to do with the captaincy of the Eagles.

“Why will I be on the pitch and you will tell me that someone will captain the team?” he asked.

Ahmed Musa was Eagles captain until March 2016 when Mikel Obi replaced him before the AFCON qualifiers against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

“I have chosen to step down as the assistant captain of the Super Eagles,” he said.

Musa, who has made 60 international appearances and scored 11 goals for the Eagles, said that the issue of captaincy will not affect his commitment to the Nigerian cause.

“I am part of the team and will always be part of the team,” he said. “I will always support whatever decision the coaching crew or technical crew take. We all are working for the progress of the team.”
