Pregnant Woman Pours Boiling Water on her Footballer Boyfriend Possibly Ending his Career

​A football star’s college career might just have ended after a brutal attack from his pregnant girlfriend. Florida International University tight end Jonnu Smith’s pregnant 20-year-old girlfriend, Mary Gaspar, poured boiling water on him after a dispute inside his apartment. According to the arrest affidavit, Gaspar at the FIU police headquarters recounted what happened.

“The two argued through the day over the attention Smith was paying to her and their relationship. While in Smith’s dorm room and “feeling extremely emotional and stressed,” she told police, she boiled a pot of water. Then, she walked over to Smith and poured it on him. When Smith didn’t react strongly enough for her, she started hitting him with her open hands.” Smith suffered severe burns on his head, neck, back, a shoulder, an arm and had to be hospitalized after the incident. He has been seen back on campus even though he’s not fit for the football field.

Gaspar, five months pregnant with Smith’s child was arrested two days later. She has since pleaded not guilty, and was released on a pretrial order. Smith is third in FIU history with 17 career touchdown catches, and fourth with 175 receptions. He caught 39 passes for 441 yards and three touchdowns this season and will likely be considered for the NFL Draft.
