The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Francis Mobolaji Odesanya has challenged the State Governor, Barr.Nyesom Wike to keep to his threat and make a video footage he claims he has public.

The Commissioner who spoke through the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Omoni Nnamdi, frowned at the sad trend by the governor who has recently taken to blackmailing personalities and institutions of government for cheap political gains. DSP Nnamdi while reacting to the allegation said, “It is sad that the state governor has chosen to drag the Commissioner’s name into his politics. The Police remains true to its constitutional mandate and apolitical. Police men do not vote during election duties and they don’t also carry weapons to polling units, so I wonder which role the police will play to rig elections in Rivers State.Considering the seriousness of the allegation, I challenge Gov.Wike to as a matter of urgent public interest make the said video involving the CP and APC leaders in a secret rigging meeting public.”

The image maker of the Rivers State Police also reassured Rivers People of the command’s readiness to provide accurate security before, during and after the December 10 concluding rerun legislative elections in the state.

Edujandon.com  recalls that Gov.Wike while flagging off the rehabilitation of the General Hospital, Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area on Monday threatened that the state government will in the coming weeks release the audio -visual footages of the Rivers State Police Commissioner plotting with politicians on the methods to be adopted for the planned rigging of the December 10 rerun elections .

This latest accusation follows similar accusations by Gov.Wike in past few days against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Minister of Transportation, Rt.Hon.Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, DG, NIMASA, Dr.Dakuku Peter side, Dr.Barinaadaa Mpigi and Senator Magnus Abe, APC Legislative Candidates from Rivers South-East.

Meanwhile political tension seems to have heightened in the state ahead of the rerun election scheduled for December 10, 2016.

A cross section of Portharcourt residents and indigenes who spoke with Versatile Reporters expressed fears that widespread violence may still characterise the rerun election just like previous elections held in the state. While some respondents cautioned the governor against making inflammatory statements, others said they will either travel out of the state or won’t vote during the rerun elections.
