Tension as Soldiers Storm Ogoniland in Search of ‘Osama Bin Laden’

​There was tension in the Yeghe community area of Rivers when a team comprising soldiers and policemen stormed the area in search of Osama Bin Laden.

The Punch reports that the community which is located in Gokana local government area was tensed following the invasion of security operatives on Sunday, September 18.

It was reported that the invasion started around 4am as soldiers shot into the air in search of a former militant leader, Solomon Ndigbara, who is popularly known as Osama bin Laden.

Some community leaders were arrested while several persons fled for fear of being hit by stray bullets.

A community source revealed that one Samuel and his wife could not be found after the raid and that blood stains were found in one of the couple’s rooms.

“Again, the whereabouts of John Gbarazia is unknown. We don’t even know if he is alive or dead.”

“Barikui, Suanu, Sorbarikor and Barikpoa Diih, who were arrested, have been released this evening. The combined team of security operatives came to Yeghe community in Gokana Local Government Area.”

The source called on the federal government to protect the community from politicians who wanted to turn the region into a war zone.

The Civil Liberties Organisation in the South-South condemned the activities of security operatives in the attack on the community.

“The CLO got calls from members of Yeghe community on Saturday about suspicions of military attack, which they alleged was masterminded by certain known desperate political fellows from Ogoni.

“Just this Sunday morning by 4am, the Army and other security agencies allegedly invaded the same endangered Yeghe community again in about 12 trucks of heavily armed soldiers, shooting sporadically for more than two hours, torched two houses belonging to one Mr. Boy Tore and that of his son named Mr. New Tore.”

A security source revealed that the army only provided cover to the police who actually led the raid
