Rohr will Ruin Nigeria Football- Adamu

NIGERIAN football will not get any better under the tutelage of coach Gernot Rohr, these were the submissions of former FIFA and CAF executive member Dr. Amos Adamu.

The much travelled Franco-German Rohr signed a two-year contract with the Nigeria Football Federation on $47,000 (about N18.8m) per month pay, but Dr. Adamu who was also a former sole administrator of the NFF said in Abuja that it was not worth it.

“He does not have the pedigree, I don’t know him. For now, we do not have a coach. He will just damage us and then he will leave.”

Adamu also questioned the method the coach was hired by the NFF, adding that the federation did not do enough work to get the right coach. He added that under the present leadership of the NFF, Nigeria football has sunk so low with national teams failing to qualify for continental tournaments, and the NFF president Amaju Pinnick should take responsibility. “He should take responsibility for his actions, but it won’t happen. Who will enforce? Who is in that ministry to enforce it?

“We are also suffering from a culture of poverty and so people asking for him to resign will be bought over and before you know it, they will be singing a different song,” said Adamu on Hot Fm Abuja.

Rohr will have his first day in office on September 3 when the Super Eagles file out against Tanzania in an Africa Cup of Nations tie that is of no significance. The Super Eagles having failed to get a good result against Egypt home and away lost out in the group qualifiers.

Against Tanzania Rohr will perhaps reveal a glimpse of what he has in store for the team. He has mandate to restore some dignity in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers where the Super Eagles are in a group dubbed the “group of death”. The will face Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia. It is up to Rohr to prove Adamu wrong by picking the ticket.
