FIFA Inform US,Swiss Authorities Over Blatter Enrichment
World football governing body FIFA is informing US and Swiss authorities about disgraced former president Sepp Blatter and deputies Jerome Valcke and Markus Kattner for trying to “enrich themselves” with $80 million.
FIFA said on Friday they have passed on the information to Swiss prosecutors and will also inform US authorities, the two countries where criminal investigations into corruption at the scandal-tainted body are ongoing.
“The evidence appears to reveal a coordinated effort by three former top officials of FIFA to enrich themselves through annual salary increases, World Cup bonuses and other incentives totalling more than 79 million Swiss francs ($80 million, 71 million euros) -– in just the last five years,” said Bill Burck, a partner with Quinn Emanuel, the attorneys conducting FIFA’s internal investigation.
