Death Toll Rises As Heavy Flood Sweeps Across Ghana
More people have died from the disaster caused by the devastating flood that washed across parts of Ghana. An official of the National Disaster Management Organization has revealed that the death toll in the southern Ghana’s city of Cape Coast’s flood has increased from five to 10.
Sandy Amartey, the Regional Coordinator of NADMO, said the flood followed four days of torrential rains which wreaked havoc in the coastal city, about 144 km west of the capital.
He said some of the victims were swept away by the strong running water, while others were electrocuted, while the rest were hit accidentally by broken walls.
He said that the bodies have been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
“Officials of NADMO are still continuing with their assistance of the affected persons,”
he added.
