UCL: Man City Wins, Atletico Madrid Held by PSV
Goals from Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Yaya Toure gave the Chilean’s charges a priceless victory in the first leg of their round of 16 clash at the Olimpic Stadium
Manchester City took control of their Champions League last-16 tie with Dynamo Kiev with a 3-1 victory in the first leg in Ukraine.
Sergio Aguero opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour at the Olimpic Stadium, rifling an excellent finish into the bottom corner of the net.
A superb team move saw Raheem Sterling set up David Silva for City’s second 25 minutes later, with the Premier League side in cruise control by the time the first half drew to a close.
Vitaliy Buyalskyi pulled one back for the hosts after the break with the help of a Nicolas Otamendi deflection, though, as City were put under pressure for much of the second period.
But Yaya Toure struck late on to give City a two-goal cushion ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium next month.
Diego Godin saw a goal ruled out for a foul as the Colchoneros were frustrated in their Champions League match, with all to play for in the return fixture at the Calderon
Atletico Madrid found no way through a resilient PSV in Eindhoven, as the Liga club were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against their 10-man opponents.
Diego Godin had the ball in the net for Diego Simeone’s side, but the Uruguayan saw his effort ruled out for a foul.
And not even Gaston Pereiro’s expulsion for a second yellow card could dampen PSV’s resolve, as the Dutch side held on for a tie which leaves the Champions League clash wide open still.
