Nigeria’s Under-23 football team, the Dream Team VI qualified for the semifinals of the 2015 Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations on Saturday after drawing 0-0 with Algeria in their final Group B game in Dakar.
The Dream Team never got out of first gear at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, Dakar against an Algerian side that dominated for large spells.
Oghenekaro Etebo’s free kick in the 32nd minute was Nigeria’s best opportunity in the first half.
The second half of a truly dire contest followed a similar pattern to the first with the North Africans bossing possession while Nigeria sporadically threatened on the break.
Clear cut opportunities were at a premium as both sides were content with the point that would take them through to the semis, refused to take too many risks.
The points sees Nigeria progress to the last four as Group B’s runners up with five points from three games.
Algeria finished as winners of Group B while Mali finished in third place after beating Egypt 1-0 in M’Bour.
Samson Siasia’s men will now play against hosts, Senegal in the semi final at Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, Dakar on December 9.
