Multiple Blasts Hit Maiduguri, Scores Dead
Multiple blasts have rocked Maiduguri, Borno State capital, on Tuesday, October 13, leaving many dead and several houses destroyed, AFP reports.
The explosions were said to have occurred in the Ajilari Cross area of the city, same area the September 20 attack that left 117 people dead, took place.
Details are still sketchy as to the cause of the blasts, but eyewitnesses said it happened at quick intervals from 8:10 pm.
“We are all confused and people are running helter-skelter,” Bashir Mohammed, whose house is near the scene of the blasts, told AFP.
A cleric in the area, Sheriff Ahmad, also said; “Many people have been killed. I don’t know how many and I don’t think anyone can tell you now.”
Similarly, a nurse, Hafsat Sani, at the nearby Umaru Shehu Hospital, said; “there are many houses around the area and the blasts have affected many of them.”
It was gathered that police, soldiers, the Red Cross and officials from Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have been mobilised.
“Obviously there are people that died but I don’t have figures,” a Red Cross official said.
Just like previous attacks, it is believed that Boko Haram terrorists are responsible for the attack.
