Armed men suspected to be indigenes of Ibaji in Kogi State yesterday beheaded two persons on their farms at Eziagulu Otu, near Orient Petroleum Resources Limited in Anambra East Local Government Area while four others sustained varied levels of injuries. The attack came barely 24 hours after members of Board of Directors of Orient Petroleum informed the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano during a courtesy call that the company had acquired two new wells in Aguleri, adding that its crude oil production will be boosted to 3,000 barrels per day come September. The gunmen who were said to have been well armed took the farmers unawares and in an attempt to flee to safety, some ran into a river. The assailants caught 6 persons, beheaded two and left four others injured.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr. Hosea Karma, said his men in partnership with the Kogi State Police Command have waded into the matter so as to forestall further violence.
