45 Years Old Man Sets His Wife Ablaze Over Valentine Disagreement

A 45-year-old man identified as Uche Ubanwa yesterday allegedly set his wife, Ugochi, ablaze before handing himself over to the police in Orlu, Imo State. It was gathered that the woman was sleeping when her husband walked up to her, poured fuel on her and set her ablaze.
Although reasons for Ubanwa’s action could not be ascertained at press time, it was learnt that the couple had engaged in a heated argument following a disagreement on Valentine’s Day which might not be unconnected with infidelity. A reliable family source said “the woman was sleeping when the husband set her ablaze having poured fuel on her”.
Consequently, trouble broke out at the couple’s hometown at Umuahiami Afara in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state yesterday when the in-laws from Ekwe autonomous community in Isu Njaba Local Government Area stormed the sleepy Afara village on revenge mission.
They destroyed their son-in-law’s house and property worth millions of naira. Sources said that it took the intervention of a detachment of mobile policemen to quell the violence that ensued.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident. He said that the suspect was in the police custody, adding that the matter was still under investigation.
