Sometimes it is amusing, sometimes rather inconvenient. But have you ever asked your self what is the story behind this morning erection experienced by the majority of men?
Morning erections are correctly called nocturnal penile tumescence. Having an erection during your sleep or just in the morning is completely okay. It can occur up to 3-5 times during the night. Even women can be aroused during their sleep, it is just harder to notice it.
There are several theories explaining the morning erections. One of them states that during one sleeping phase, some portions of hormone testosterone can be expressed and it results in erection.
It was also suggested that some cells inside our blood cause muscle relaxation during sleep. Blood flow to the penis and we get an erection.
But why does this happen? One of the ideas is that these nightly occurrence are making your system healthier. All these erections help create tissues which can prevent bad conditions like erectile dysfunction.
Another theory is that night erections prevent men from wetting in bed. The thing is that there are 2 kinds of erections: reflex and psychogenic. The second occurs with specific thoughts or images. But the first happens without any sexy thoughts. It is believed that a full bladder can trigger it. But it is difficult to pee with a boner so your nightly erection can prevent you from peeing in your bed.
Nevertheless this part of your system is normal and it is nothing to be ashamed about.
