UPDATED: South African Traveler Tested For EBOLA In Lagos
A South African travelling via Nigeria’s airport was taken to the Ebola centre with symptoms associated with the deadly tropical virus.
According to The Nation, it was made known September 11, by Nigerian health officials. The woman whose identity was not provided was reportedly travelling back to her native country after working in Guinea and Sierra Leone.
The suspect flew into the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) from Morocco. She was rushed from the Lagos airport to the Ebola treatment centre for tests.
The woman from Cape Town was said to have filled in the health questionnaire upon arrival to Lagos, in which she admitted to experiencing some Ebola symptoms: diarrhea and vomiting.
The director of Port Health Services at MMIA told Reuters:
“This person has been in Guinea and Sierra Leone since April and she has symptoms.”
The woman tested negative for the EVD, however she undergoes further examination for other disease with similar symptoms.
It would be recalled that the Nigeria’s Ministry of Health officially announced that there was no single case of Ebola left in the country.
The disease was brought into Nigeria in the end of July with the Liberian-American, who traveled to Lagos from the already affected Liberia.
Meanwhile the virus has claimed about 2,300 lives in West Africa, with the epidemic centers in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea
