Power Supply Grows From 3,000MW To 4,000MW
One of the major problems of Nigeria, poor power supply, is in the process of being solved. The recent figures by Federal Government which were released on April 22, 2014, Tuesday, provide good base for such optimism.
Fewer system collapses, decreased vandalism of critical infrastructure and improvements in service delivery enabled significant growth to 4,000MW, as compared to the previous level of 3,000MW.
The statement by the Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, confirmed the exact figure of 4105.90MW. The most populous area, Lagos and its environs got the highest share of 985.0MW, while the
FCT, Abuja, received 410.80MW through Katampe and Gwagwalada power lines.
All the allegations that national power generation “is down to 2,000MW” were tagged as untrue.
The ministry further confirmed the commitments of the Federal Government to consolidate efforts at removing all bottlenecks to sufficiency in power supply, asked Nigerians for more patience and understanding in case the power supply is down.
It would be noted that the minister previously promised that if all goes well the transmission capacity will grow to 6000MW this year, however, he warned that steady power supply is unlikely to be achieved in 2014.
