Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be out for a
minimum of four weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury against
Chelsea, owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has told RMC.
Ibrahimovic, 32, was forced to come off 68 minutes into his
side’s 3-1 Champions League quarterfinal first-leg win at the Parc
des Princes on Wednesday.
The Sweden international was due to undergo tests on the injury on
Thursday, and Al-Khelaifi has since confirmed that the former AC
Milan man is out of the return leg at Stamford Bridge, while he
may not be fully fit until at least the beginning of May.
“We are waiting for the results of his tests,” he said. “But I think he
will be absent for a minimum of four weeks. He will not be playing in
the return match against Chelsea, it’s impossible.”
Should Al-Khelaifi be correct, Ibrahimovic would be sidelined for
both legs of the Champions League semifinal, providing PSG
progress to the last four.
Meanwhile, with the Ligue 1 title looking to be heading to Paris for
the second year running, Al-Khelaifi also revealed that coach
Laurent Blanc is on the verge of signing a contract extension,
following his good work since replacing Carlo Ancelotti in the
summer.
“I have great respect for Ancelotti, who is a great coach, but Laurent
Blanc has done a lot to change the style and the quality of play,” he
said. “I am very happy and I hope that he can sign an extension this
week. He is very happy at the club and there is no reason not to stay
with PSG.”
