aged 31 and 33 respectively, have been arrested by the police in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North local government area of Delta State for allegedly raping an 80-year-old grandmother in the area.
On the day of the incident, the woman had gone
to her farm which is not very far from her house
at about 10:30am. On her way back, she was
accosted by the men who pretended to be hunters.
They dragged her into the bush where they
allegedly raped her.
While fleeing the scene after raping her, one of
the suspects fell into a deep hole and was about
being rescued by farmers who were on the way to
their farm when they heard the screams of the old
woman. When they got to the old woman, she
told them what had happened and they raised an
alarm alerting other farmers who called the
police.
But before the arrival of the police, the farmers
gave the suspect thorough beating.
The arrested suspect was said to have led the
police to their hideout where the second suspect was arrested.
Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu said, the suspects had confessed to the crime, adding that they would be charged to court as the doctors had
examined the woman and found bruises on her private part.
