Despite the peace committee set up by the acting
Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, a
resurgence of crisis in Andoyaku, in Chinkai ward of
Wukari Local Government of the state on Monday night claimed another 25 lives.
The attackers were said to have set the entire village ablaze while the residents fled their abode to unknown destinations.
The Acting Governor, who confirmed the development, while addressing newsmen in Jalingo on Tuesday, expressed regret over the resurgence of the clashes, adding that it had become imperative to update the people of the state on the security situation, which he described as troublesome.
Umar said,  “ As you aware, the problem of insurgency has assumed the dimension of a national crisis as it now affects more than 15 states in the northern part of the country ”.
According to him, since the outbreak of the crisis, the state government had taken a number of pro-active measures to quell the violence, including holding of security meeting involving traditional rulers at all levels, constituting committees in local government areas, and deploying senior civil servants in their respective areas to assist in the promotion of peace.
Other moves, he added, included the provision of relief materials to the affected people and deployment of security personnel and patrol vehicles.
Speaking on the fresh outbreak of crisis in Wukari, Ibi and Gindin Dorowa, Umar lamented that the clashes had become a retrogressive step, which has not only affected lives, but also had thrown thousands
of people into untold hardship.
He said the state had received an additional deployment of troops aimed at bringing the situation under control and to reduce the immediate hardship of the people in the affected areas.
Umar said, “ It has become imperative to appeal to all the warring factions to lay down their arms and embrace peace. We shall continue to work with all the communities and law enforcement agencies to restore peace to our state .
