Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants his side to travel to Turkey
and hammer Galatasaray 10-0 in tonight’s Champions League last-16
first leg.
The Portuguese coach was speaking tongue-in-cheek, of course, but
he made it clear that he won’t set up his side to sit back in Istanbul.
Speaking after Saturday’s narrow 1-0 victory over Everton in the
Premier League on Saturday, Mourinho told reporters: “Ideally I
would prefer to go there and win 10-zero.
“Obviously we have some limitations.”
Mourinho was also asked about the former Chelsea striker Didier
Drogba, who prepares to face the Blues for the first time since
leaving Stamford Bridge in 2012.
“He’s still good, still a threat,” the Chelsea manager commented. “It
will be a strange feeling playing against him because we know him so
well but as a manager I have come up against him before.
“We played Chelsea when I was at Internazionale and he was at
Galatasaray when Real Madrid played them last season.”
Mourinho added: “We [Real Madrid] lost in Istanbul. They had us
in trouble but Galatasaray is always a difficult place to go to; the
crowd is difficult too. Before the game and after the game it will be
big respect for Didier, we will always be big friends because he is a
real legend of the Chelsea club.
“But during the game we will not be friends and we know as well
that Galatasaray have a very experienced team with many more big
players.”
Galatasaray, managed by former Manchester City manager Roberto
Mancini, are currently second in the Turkish Super Lig table, having
taken 44 points from their opening 22 matches.
However, Gala showed earlier this season that they are no pushovers
in Europe after qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages
ahead of Italian champions Juventus.
Can this be possible ?
